Awarded rockstar status by Trip Advisor the beach is affectionately known as the Mount. The beach’s sandy shores stretch in a continuous line from the Mount to Papamoa finishing in a gentle curve at Mateku. The beach has the hill as a focal point with gaily fluttering lifeguard flags, enthusiastic surfers, beach goers lounging on the beach all enjoying the Pacific Ocean’s clear blue depths. An artificial reef installed 250m offshore creates perfect waves for surfers, The excellent swimming conditions have fostered the counterpoint of cafes, shops and summer popup stalls across the road from the beach. The tradition of an ice cream at the beach is amply catered for by Copenhagen Cones.

Relish the wide sweeps of a white sandy beach, reaching16 km from the Mount to Kaituna River. Papamoa Beach is a quieter version of Mount Maunganui Main beach. The beautiful dunes and coastal grasses have numerous pathways to the shoreline setting the scene for a coastline where swells encourage surfers and walkers to enjoy watching a game of beach volleyball. Swimmers do not fret with the Papamoa Surf Club carefully marking out safe swimming spots with flags. The beach is enormous and you will never feel crowded. The beach is supported with restaurants and shops just up the road from the beach, making it a great family destination.

Gorgeous, stunning Ohope with its 11 km of white sands and family friendly swimming options is another hot favourite in the Bay of Plenty.
