Ocean swells, driftwood, wide sweeps of lightly tinted iron sand is the perfect spot for surf-casting. The DOC campsite is as close to the beach as you could get without getting your feet wet. The Matata wildlife refuge is a coastal walk among the native birds and the General Store the place for an ice cream or Auntie’s cafe for local speciality, fish n chips.
