Te Arai beach – Surfing

Auckland, North Island

At the northern tip of Auckland province is a quiet remote beach at the end of gravel rural roads with a campground nearby within a regional park. The surf at Te Arai is mellow and considered safe for surfers. Te Arai straddles the line between Wellsford and Mangawhai and two beaches; Te Arai Point and Forestry sit on the Wellsford side while its northern beach Black Swamp sits in Mangawhai (Northland province).

What to learn to surf or improve your surfing skills?

Then Mangawhai & Te Arai is the place to be with boards, wetsuits for hire. The school is located at the start of Te Arai Point Road and you can even hire a board for the day.

There is an old quarry which is now a swimming hole although at high tide the sea flushes out the pool.

INTERESTING FACT NOTE

NOTE

Dogs are not allowed due to the endangered fairy tern and dotterel birds nesting sites in the dunes.
