Tairua is opposite Pauanui and located at the base of Mt Paku. The ocean beach is a great place to try your hand at surfcasting or joining a charter to catch snapper and kingfish. The inner harbour is a safe place to kayak and collect shellfish at low tide. Fish off the wharf or go water bombing off the Pepe Bridge at high tide. With over 60 documented species of birdlife and a series of plaques describing the landscape, the birds and history of Tairua holiday makers will soon become a local expert.

DIVING ALDERMEN ISLANDS
Tairua provides access to temperate water scuba diving and spearfishing. The Aldermen Islands are 12 nautical miles off the coast. The extinct ancient 8 million year old volcano is a series of outcrops, peaks and rocky inlets providing shelter for marine life.
