Waipatiki Scenic Reserve

Waipatik Reserve @Wilma Verburg Waipatik Reserve @Wilma Verburg

Discover a hidden gem. The walk passes kahikatea trees and nikau palms and the original native bush. The small reserve entrance is situated past Waipatiki Beach on Tangoio Rd. It is a steep climb through native bush. The formed path offers access to small bays and quiet undisturbed beaches. Original coastal bush is rare and the mature 600 years plus kahikatea trees, nikau palms support a thriving bird population of kereru, fantails, tui and bellbirds. The beach is one of the Hawke’s Bay favourite places for locals to dive, surf and swim.  Check out Top 10 Hawke’s Bay beaches for more information about Waipatiki.

TIP

Don’t want to climb hills then explore Waipatiki Domain. There is a glorious pocket of bush with plenty of bird life especially at dusk.
