Things to do in Piha Beach
Piha is the poster beach of the West Coast. with its well known TV series, Piha Rescue featuring lifeguards rescuing semi submerged swimmers from treacherous waters. And then there is Lion Rock, the instagram photo moment for visitors. There is even a small parking space to manage the photo moment. As you approach Piha you will see a sign ‘lookout’. Make sure you can safely pull over and get your photo moment. As the tourist poster beach there are established cafes, convenience stores, camping grounds and accommodation options. It’s a great place for fish and chips on the beach, wind blown sand optional. The contrast between Karekare with its less publicised beach and Piha is reflected in the greater number of visitors to Piha. Large tour buses are a regular sight at both Piha and Muriwai Beaches.
Every beach has its personality carved out of the elements and nature. Explore further Auckland’s wild west coast and find waterfalls, ocean gannets wheeling above clifftops, places to surf and challenge the elements, cafes perched in the Waitakere’s welcoming visitors, exhilitering coastline walks and a glorious art gallery in Titirangi.
