Kawau Bay – Snells Beach

Auckland, North Island

Kawau Bay – Snells Beach highlights

  • Several kilometres of boardwalk to scooter along, bike along or amble on enjoying the coastal scenery and people watch
  • Safe shallow water
  • A great cafe at the end of the beach
  • Boat ramp

Snells Beach is glorious, with generous parking, playgrounds, toilets, mature trees, shading seating areas and safe shallow swimming. There are multiple entry points and several BBQ pits for the long summer evenings. It is a very tidal beach, and at high tide it makes for great swimming. In the low tide sun warmed paddling pools form. The sandy bottom and shallow waters can feel like a toasty warm bath and the tidal flow is slow and warms on the heated exposed sand.

Dog exercise: Dogs are prohibited headland to headland from 9am to 7pm between the 1st Sunday in October and the 3rd Sunday in March.

Getting to Kawau Bay – Snells Beach

Nearest town is Warkworth with the popular Matakana just a short distance as well. The beach is next door to Algiers Bay.
