Adelaide Zoo regular scheduled keeper talks, animal experiences and personal interactions should be booked beforehand to avoid missing out.

 

There are cafes, seated areas for picnics and a well stocked gift souvenir shop. Over its 136 years, Adelaide Zoo has celebrated a number of breeding successes for endangered species such as the Orange-bellied Parrots, Western Swamp Tortoises, Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby and small primates including Golden Lion Tamarins and White-cheeked Gibbons.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO NEARBY ADELAIDE ZOO

  • Adelaide Zoo Playground is impressive. Kids can have fun on play equipment built on nature play principles. There are climbing structures, water play features, a creek bed to paddle in and aerial walkways. Kids have a birds-eye-view of the Zoo, the CBD and the riverbank. Disabled access does not miss out with a lift to view the zoo from the aerial lookout.
  • Another aerial challenge for kids. If your kids are not afraid of heights, climb through treetops. Children have to be over 100 cm in height.  Admission fees apply. Check TreeClimb Adelaide.
  • National Railway Museum for kids to explore a full sized steam train complete with puffing steam. 
  • Adelaide Zoo is a mere 1.8 km to Rundle Mall, a premier shopping destination. 18 minutes walk and the teenagers are happy.

Parking and Public Transport

The Botanic Gardens of South Australia owns and operates all parking on Plane Tree Drive and offers a number of accessible parks close to the zoo main entrance. Buses stop at Stop 2, Frome Road directly outside the zoo including the free city connector bus.
