Amazing gem in the Central Hawke’s Bay beach is perfect for swimming, fishing and surfing. The beach is a local favourite for fishing with an annual fishing competition and beach polo a summer highlight. Porangahau Beach (Te Paerahi) has a wide sandy foreshore that’s ideal for launching boats with the handy local tractor. There is a campground near the beach. The nearby settlement has a general store. At low tide, Muddy Point is an interesting intertidal reef to explore. There is no visitors centre or shops at Pourerere Beach.

The Pourerere Beach Caravan Park organises a number of yearly events, typically open to members of the caravan park:

- Children’s beach events
- Blackhead fishing and darts competitions
