Tangoio Waterfalls

The waterfall is a three tiered cascading waterfall. The viewing platform is positioned from the top of the falls. The base of the falls is not officially accessible. The waterfalls are magnificent after rain however parts of the track can be muddy and slippery.

The walkway follows Karaara stream through native forest, open grassland, and commercial pine forests to the Te Ana and Tangoio Falls. You will hear the sound of native birds, tui, kereru, bellbird, fantail, kingfisher and grey warbler in the forest and watch for freshwater crayfish in the stream. Te Ana Falls, the shorter yet more powerful falls, is the first waterfall with a short side track to the viewing platform. Return to the main track and continue walking uphill to Tangoio Falls dramatic casades.

The walkway is connected with tracks in the in White Pine Bush Reserve. Tangoio Walkway can be accessed from the picnic / parking areas at either the southern end of Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve or opposite White Pine Bush Scenic Reserve. Department of Conservation manage the reserve Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve tracks.
