Uncover the stories of the district within the three galleries describing the migration stories of East Polynesians to Aotearoa New Zealand to the present. Legends, myths and taonga (treasures) are beautifully displayed. The 19th century narrative of Land Wars, European settlement and the growth of modern Whakatane is elaborated. Natural history and the significance of geological events is investigated. Exhibitions are interactive with local artists contributing to the museum’s flair and accessibility.
