Whanganui National Park West hunting

North Island, New Zealand

Includes: Part Whanganui National Park, Putikituna and Pahautuhia Scenic Reserves and Tangarakau, Whangamomona, Ramanui, Taumatamahoe and Arawata Conservation Areas.

High numbers of goats, low to medium numbers of fallow deer, red deer and pigs.

Special restrictions:

  • No hunting from the Whanganui River between 1 October to 30 April.
  • No hunting on or within 50 metres of the Matemateaonga Track.

Facts:

  • A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land
  • This hunting area is covered by an ‘open area permit’ which can be obtained online or from a DOC office
  • Dog access: Dogs with a DOC permit (contact the relevant DOC office) and a current kiwi aversion certificate only
