Enjoy a long sweep of fine gray sand and proximity to Hastings and Havelock North make this a local favourite. The typical east coast beach does have undercurrents making it unsafe at times. There is a playground with a surf life saving boat to climb in as well as a flying fox, climbing ropes and monkey bars situated behind the surf life saving club and watch tower. There are toilets and changing rooms. The beach has reasonable Wifi coverage, a general store and cafe open in the summer months. There is also a boat ramp and a variety of beach accommodation. There is a motor camp at the beach which is located about 300 metres from Waimarama Surf Life Saving Club. The beach is suitable for most recreational users. There are Volunteer Lifeguards during the weekends over the summer months and also Professional Lifeguards over the six week school holiday period. Surfing and fishing are also very popular at Waimarama Beach. The Puhokio Stream crosses Waimarama Beach and discharges into the estuary created by the April 2011 storm. This can be a popular place for small children to paddle but can have poorer water quality in warmer weather.
