Auckland West Coast Te Henga Bethells beach

Things to do in Te Henga Bethells beach

Auckland west coast Te Henga (Bethells) beach is a local favourite with a safe estuary for children to paddle in as well as the standard heart pounding magic of enormous surfing swells hitting the ocean beach at regular intervals. Visitors have a lake to check out as well. Lake Wainamu (Bethells Lake) is 2.3 km from the beach. It is signposted at the car park for Te Henga Walkway. The walk to Lake Wainamu is opposite the Te Henga signpost. The walk is approximately 2 km one way. You are traversing volcanic sand dunes which are massive with a steep drop at the end of the sand dunes to a creek that feeds into the freshwater Lake Wainamu.

Every beach has its personality carved out of the elements and nature. Explore further Auckland’s wild west coast and find waterfalls, ocean gannets wheeling above clifftops, places to surf and challenge the elements, cafes perched in the Waitakere’s welcoming visitors, exhilitering coastline walks and a glorious art gallery in Titirangi.
