Pourerere Beach (Waipukurau)

Amazing gem in the Central Hawke’s Bay beach is perfect for swimming, fishing and surfing. The beach is a local favourite for fishing with an annual fishing competition and beach polo a summer highlight. Porangahau Beach (Te Paerahi) has a wide sandy foreshore that’s ideal for launching boats with the handy local tractor. There is a campground near the beach. The nearby settlement has a general store. At low tide, Muddy Point is an interesting intertidal reef to explore. There is no visitors centre or shops at Pourerere Beach.

NOTE

No lifeguards at this beach.

Annual Activities

The Pourerere Beach Caravan Park organises a number of yearly events, typically open to members of the caravan park:

  • New Years Eve fishing competition awards, auction and dinner
  • Children’s beach events
  • Blackhead fishing and darts competitions
  • Summer period fishing competition
