Ice cream is a summer staple

In fact ice cream is probably a secret food group. Auckland does not disappoint with a number of delicious melt in the mouth ice creams for all family members, including the kids. While this list is NOT exhaustive it is some of BEST BITS family favourites.

Duck Ice Cream

Duck Island Ice Cream. Thank you Hamilton for the success of Duck Ice Cream and its arrival in Auckland. Perhaps parents want to go shopping in either Newmarket or Ponsonby Road. Duck Ice Cream offers a chance to negotiate with kids about the treat in store on Ponsonby Rd or Osbourne St, Newmarket. There are an extraordinary array of flavours (24) with the option of vegan ice cream.

TIP

Fairy Bread is a family fav.

Takapuna beach cafe & store

Takapuna Beach Cafe and Store is an excellent reason to hang out at the extensive beach facilities of Takapuna. The beach cafe is in a great location on the Takapuna promenade. Enjoy your ice cream with the sand beneath your feet.

Island Gelato Company

Island Gelato Company a craft ice cream manufacturer with three locations on Waiheke Island, Oneroa, Ferry Building Downtown Auckland and Ponsonby Rd. They are a well known local favourite for their coffee.

Charlies Gelato Garden (Warkworth)

Charlies Gelato manages to make the choice very difficult with over 40 flavours folded into gelato and sorbetto. The outdoor courtyard is a favourite with plenty of open spaces to think about eating a second ice cream trying out another flavour. Combine a trip to Charlies and explore Warkworth’s abandoned cement factory or discover a massive kauri next to the quirky Warkworth Museum.

St Heliers Bay Cafe

Get your Ice cream and Gelato at St Heliers Bay Cafe & Bistro and stroll across to the St Helier picnic tables by the playground.

Miann

Miann adds a touch of class to the day with a sumptuous array of desserts and watching your kids get wet in the Britomart water fountains in front of the store. The Morningside store has a relaxed courtyard area outside that families can enjoy. The Morningside store is conveniently located close to Auckland’s magnificent sports arena and their chocolate factory shop. And those chocolates can be ordered online.

Giapo (Auckland City centre)

Giapo states normal ice cream is boring. Giapo is a glorious taste sensation yet the triumph is the towering design features of their ice creams. Definitely works of art. A special treat for all age groups.
