    About Trip
    Oamaru Victorian Heritage
    Celebrations Festival
Victorian architecture & Dress up parties

Dress up never looked so good. Parties for grown ups and laughter for families as you spend a long weekend celebrating Oamaru’s heritage anniversary. Victorian buildings are the backdrop for a festival showcasing the era of penny farthings, garden design and romantic poetry.

Oamaru has Victorian splendour, an intact precinct that oozes Victorianian, a garden of national significance, old fashioned charm and courtesy and natural history galore.

The 1970’s saw the beginnings of an interest in marketing Oamaru’s distinctive street frontages along with the cute blue and yellow eyed little cuties adorable waddling  penguins for Oamaru stoically trudging up and down the beach, as regular as clockwork.

    DAY 1
    Oamaru - historic charm
    and hidden treasures
Harbour Street, New Zealand’s most consistently “old” street

    Highlights of the day

    • Check out the Victorian Precinct
    • Bushy Beach – meet with yellow-eyed penguins
    • Forrester Gallery – spectacular neo-classical building

    Check out the Victorian Precinct

Oamaru looks a little different from any other town in New Zealand. You’ll definitely feel like you’ve left New Zealand and been transported back in time as you wander the Victorian Precinct. There are a lot of quirky shops and eateries in the precinct encouraging visitors to linger. Let’s get in Oamaru during the Victorian Fete in mid-November where visitors and locals alike dress up in their best Victorian attire! Fun in a crinoline dress or frock coat jacket.
