On arrival discover Blenheim, situated in the heart of wine-growing Marlborough. It is one of the sunniest towns in New Zealand, with an estimated average of 2,438 hours of sunshine a year. Mountains frame the area and trap the summer heat (temperatures over 30°C are quite normal in February and March).

Marlborough outdoors beckons many guests. Consider exploring the heritage wetlands of the Wairau lagoon. The easy flat boardwalk through history among the nesting birds to a picturesque rusting wreck is fascinating. The information plaques describe the birdlife, vegetation and narrate the story of the wreck. At sunrise or sunset there are instagram worthy photo moments.

For visitors Pelorus Bridge and white water river invites you to kayak your way past film set scenery from Lord of the Rings. A guided kayaking tour provides a humorous commentary and a hearty afternoon tea as a reward for energy spent. The kayaking tour pick up is Havelock where you might be tempted to sample the green lipped mussels from the local mussel farms.
