An excellent European settler ethnographic museum recreating the life of a Scottish immigrant family, the McNicol family.
A Clevedon museum focused on the settler family, the McNicol family. Numerous memorabilia, objects and equipment give a picture of 19th century domestic and farm life in Clevedon. In summer the gardens are open to picnic in among the outdoor farm equipment.
The McNicol Homestead is a fine looking two storey house overlooking the Wairoa River and the Clevedon Valley. All the kauri used in the construction of the house was milled on the property. The McNicol family were the first settlers in the Clevedon area, and this, their second home was built in 1878 … Mr B Ross, a former Manukau City Councillor, has recently gifted the homestead and 7450 [square metres] of land to the Manukau City Council. The museum is managed by the Clevedon & Districts Historical Society and is open Saturdays, Sundays 1 pm-4 pm, or other times by appointment. Check beforehand for changes to the opening hours to avoid disappointment.

The McNicol Musueum is located in Clevedon where the weekend farmers market is a well known attraction for Auckland locals intent on a trip beyond the city boundaries.
