Billiard room of the Ballarat Hotel was the original location for the museum now it is housed in the former Bank of New Zeland building (1955). The museum’s focus is Maori life, the bleak pioneering settlement existence and the gold mining. The exhibits are hands on and interactive with personal narratives to support static displays. The museum operates the historic Arrowtown post office making it a favourite spot to post the recently acquired postcard.
