Lake Tutira

Tutira Lake, Hawke`s Bay Tutira Lake, Hawke`s Bay

A quiet backwater under DOC management offers visitors a number of walks from a short 20 minutes to half day tramps. There are the remains of pre-European Maori village sites, a basic DOC campsite and toilets by the lakeside.

There are numerous walks in the Tūtira Reserve. The shortest is the:

  • Waikopiro Loop Track that follows the shores of Lake Waikopiro. Length 1.1 km, 20 minutes easy flat formed path
  • Tūtira Walkway loops the lake shore with the option of a longer loop via Galbraith’s track. The track passes Tutira Station and Lake Tutira Recreation Reserve. Length 5 to 7 km.
  • Table Mountain Trig is a climb to the glorious views of inland Kaweka and Maungaharuru Ranges and coastal Hawke’s Bay from Mahia Peninsula to Cape Kidnappers
