  • Views of the rumbling White Island, New Zealand’s active volcano
  • Views of Moutohora Island, predator free sanctuary for native wildlife
  • Access track to Toi’s Pa historic site
  • Ohope Beach sun, sand and relaxation

Kohi Point walkway follows the steep cliffs and headlands between Ohope Beach and Whakatane. A reasonable level of fitness is required for the 2 hour walks as there are steep descents and ascents. Along the way is the hidden gem of Otarawairere Bay. The track has access trails to Tois Pa or Kapu Te Rangi, a historic reserve. The walk is part of a 7-hour loop walk called The Nga Tapuwae O Toi Walkway or the Footsteps of Toi. Footsteps of Toi trail emcompasses Whakatane, the Mokorua Bird Walk and the Ohope Scenic Reserve.

TIP

There is a regular bus service between Ohope and Whakatane meaning you do not need to walk back.
