King Edward Park is manicured grass inviting visitors to plop down and smell the roses. There is a mini park where kids ply model boats and is the venue for an annual regatta. The playground is well equipped with a pirate ship. A 150 canyon is a favourite to clamber over and BBQ’s picnic tables and covered areas create a lovely cityscape for the town. Wrought iron gates, an imposing statue of pioneering farmer Arthur Fanthma and bronze Wendy add to the ‘Englishness’ and sense of nineteenth century public park ambiance. The tea kiosk and band rotunda is now an observatory. For a small town the park is a cherished public space where locals enjoy hanging out.
