Let’s start with an oldie but goodie. Te Papa, the National Museum where everything is rolled into one. Fabulous overview of New Zealand past and present together with temporary exhibitions giving the place a refresh.
The online collections New Zealand landscapes is a great way to tempt all age groups to find something they are passionate about. Or consider Blood Earth Fire Whāngai Whenua Ahi Kā. Have a browse before visiting as well check out Te Papa website for what’s up and coming in the way of curated pop up exhibitions.
For children there is storyplace StoryPlace Te Papa Pūrākau, To avoid disappointment buy your tickets to StoryPlace @ Te Papa upon entering the museum at the information desk. Spend a magical time with your preschool children at StoryPlace, exploring a museum related theme through play and make-believe. Our new child-led and activity based sessions allow for lots of active learning, and stories and songs round out each and every session. Each 45-minute session takes up to 25 people. Programmes change every 8 weeks. Cost of tickets is very reasonable, check the website for up to date information.
