@ChateauTongariro @ChateauTongariro

Highlights of the day

  • Sky Waka – Mt Ruapehu Gondola
  • Meads 1km walk to explore volcanic mounds
  • Afternoon tea at the iconic Chateau Tongariro Hotel
  • Whakapapa Nature Walk

Guests will enjoy landscapes where the earth’s core has shaped the mountains, rivers and waterfalls.

New Zealand and Iceland are contenders for displays of natural energy with the Central Plateau giving guests a front row seat. As you swoop up and over the plateau you will see why the area is popular year round with summer tramps and winter skiing. A highlight is the delicious high tea where enormous picture windows capture the views of wild natural New Zealand.

Interesting fact: Opotaka Historic Reserve

Ka Mate Haka performed by the All Blacks chant origins are a stone’s throw away.

Opotaka is the birthplace of the All Blacks haka. Ngati Toa chief Te Rauparaha once sheltered at Motuopuhi and he acknowledged Wharerangi and his people by composing his famous ngeri, or war chanti Ka Mate. There are informative plaques to explain the significance of the site for visitors.
