Shine Falls Shine Falls

Waterfall buffs will have Shine Falls on their bucket list. The horsetail waterfall drops 58 metres.Getting to the falls is a detour with the last 7 km on a gravel road. The track is well maintained and passes through farmland, lowland regenerating forest and finishes at towering sandstone cliffs. There are uphill sections and bridged stream crossings. Low-land forest includes kanuka, kawakawa, kowhai and titoki.

This popular track, suitable for children, wanders through farmland, past castle-like limestone formations and into mixed lowland forest before emerging at the base of the stunning Shine Falls – the highest waterfall in Hawke’s Bay at 58 m.Kākābeak grow on the cliffs with the surrounding forest made up of kānuka, kawakawa, kōwhai and tītoki.

Pack a picnic lunch and look for tuna/eels living in the stream at the base of the falls. There are no toilets at the carpark or on the walk. Boundary stream walks, Hawkes Bay
