Explore Aramoana Beach. The beach and reserve is a popular weekend and holiday destination. Discover rock pools, go snorkeling for marine life, Aramoana Beach is the main access at the northern boundary of the Te Angiangi Marine Reserve. Maraetotara Lagoon sits near the mouth of the Maraetotara River and Te Awanga Domain. The Maraetotara river has considerable ecological value in providing an eel and trout habitat. The upper river has been targeted for extensive riparian restoration work since 2003. Maraetotara Falls Reserve is located nearby. Facilities include electric bbq’s, playground with a skate park and flying fox, toilets and campervan waste disposal station. Freedom camping is prohibited but there are 3 marked parking spaces at the southern end of the public car park where ONLY fully self contained motor homes are permitted to stay overnight.

BLACKHEAD BEACH
Blackhead Beach’s access is the southern end of Te Angiangi Marine Reserve. The sandy beach is popular during summer for swimming, surfing, diving and fishing. Vehicle access is prohibited on the reef platform to protect the fragile ecosystem, but there is vehicle access on the sandy track by the hill. Nearby Shoal Bay is home to new subdivisions and holiday homes.
