Rotoroa (Hamilton) Lake Domain is has a long history as one of Hamilton’s premiere parks. It is a significant recreational facility and a focal point for a variety of water and land based activities as well as offering an ecological environment in the middle of a city. The Domain has a cafe and is a popular meeting point for locals and visitors alike.
Lake Rotoroa is an ideal venue for water based activities such as yachting, windsurfing, canoeing, paddle boats, model boats, and waka ama. It is common during the weekend to observe the local model boat club indulging in races alongside children feeding ducks.

Innes Common adjacent to the Rotorua (Hamilton) Lake Domain is for active sports activities. The Common is home to the Gallagher Hockey Centre. It also attracts organised events including fairs, kite days, family days, The Waikato Balloon Festival, fun runs, concerts, school holiday programmes, orienteering and similar activities use Innes Common for events.
Walkway:
For a diverse walking route right in the city centre head over to Hamilton Lake Domain. The walk around the edge of Hamilton Lake (Rotoroa) covers 3.8 kilometres and winds through natural lakeside vegetation, past playgrounds and grassed parkland as well as the Verandah Cafe which is the perfect place to relax with a coffee after some exercise. Note that cycling is not permitted on the boardwalk section of the Lake walkway.
