Greymouth Railway Station

West Coast, South Island

The area comprises the Station; entire Platform, Verandah and Canopy, Toilets, Footbridge; Signal Box; Government Buildings opposite the Station and the Wild & Robertson Building in MacKay Street. The Victorian era timber building was built in 1885.

Vogel Class Two stations are still in operation as a functioning railway station on the original site. The success of the Tranzalpine train service and the fact an excellent visitor information centre occupies the premises will go a long way in maintaining the building. The Railway Station Footbridge was relocated to Shantytown Heritage Park in the 1970’s.

NOTE

Greymouth Visitor Centre is inside the station. They offer a free reservation service for all activities, tours, accommodation and transport. Those services include TranzAlpine Train, Tranz Scenic Trains and coach, Intercity buses, Atomic Shuttles, West Coast Shuttles, Naked Bus, InterIslander and Bluebridge Ferry.
