Ferrymead Heritage Park attractions and things to do

  • 2 minutes

Christchurch, New Zealand

Ferrymead Historic Park, is an ethnographic museum, restored buildings and vintage trains and other forms of transport. In 1863, the first railway in New Zealand was opened, running from Ferrymead into central Christchurch.

This railway line was the inspiration for Ferrymead Heritage Park and the restored railway line follows part of the route today. The Edwardian replica town has a butcher’s shop, a sweet shop, a period schoolhouse with inkwells in wooden desks, a church and general store illustrating life in the early 1990’s. You can smell the coal range and hear the sound of the tram passing and hear the clopping of horse wagons.
