The location is approximately 15 minutes drive from Whitianga and the buzz of the resort town.

Superb beachfront access to Long Bay and Tuck Bay. Both are sheltered beaches suitable for families. There are over 57 acres of native bush surrounding the campsite. The campgrounds are approximately 10 minutes drive from Coromandel Town. Long Bay Motor Camp has an on-site boat ramp, fishing charter, playground, kayak hire, Paddle Board Hire, easy access to fishing, water sports and safe swimming beaches. A very popular campgrounds forward bookings are essential.

A superb location on a scenic beach defines the summer spirit. There is a boat ramp, fishing cleaning area as well as camp tractors to launch your boat. There is a boat taxi to access inner and outer islands however check for up to date information about availability. Kayak trips you will need to supply your own canoes and equipment. Due to the remote location, check road conditions before departing. The camp grounds are beyond Coromandel Town on the way to Colville.

A range of budget options from backpacking to standard motel units. The well maintained property is an excellent choice for visitors wishing to base themselves in Coromandel Town.

WALKS

  • Long Bay, a loop track past an old kauri grove, along the beach and beneath cliffs. The trail is steep in parts.
  • Coromandel Coastal Walkway is a shared walking, cycle trial from Fletcher Bay to Stony Bay For walking buffs Success Mine Track starting at the former hospital building and along the old Colville Rd follows mining paths in the hills behind town
  • The School of Mines Museum is a cute Victoriana chocablock with heritage photographs and intriguing memorabilia. Check opening hours to avoid disappointment as it is managed by volunteers.
  • Gravel road experience the locally famous 309 ROAD is a journey through time with the winding narrow gravel road hugging the bushline and river. There are well signposted lookout points and sights along the route.
  1. Kuaotunu Camp Grounds

The camp grounds are owned by shareholders with families owning their own patch of holiday magic.

There are several self-contained chalets as well as premier apartments for rent.

A classic campground that has received some adverse comments. The location is superb directly opposite the harbour on the main street in Whitianga. The little sandy beach across from the camp is a good place to launch a kayak or take the children to explore the estuary at low tide. With the town centre just 450 metres along the road, you can leave your car at the campground and stroll to the cafes and Whitianga shops. The camp has recently had an ownership change. Refurbishments have been undertaken for the 2021 summer season.

A backpacker delight with reasonable prices for basic shared accommodation. There are powered and non-powered sites. The camp grounds are located on SH25 near the turnoff to Hot Water Beach.
