Boxed Quarter

Unmissable location with street art signalling you have arrived. A shared space of bars, cafes, eateries with music studios, emerging artists on the upper floors. A variety of tenants means your resident stylist or nightclub sit cheek by jowl. Boxed Quarter is part of the SALT district. A self-dubbed southern alternative district threaded with laneways. The centre hums around St Asaph, Lichfield and Tuam streets. The SALT district is the new cool for Christchurch. Plenty of fun from a slacklining (similar to tightrope walking) park to super street arcade joysticks and the Slate Room: a large live music venue hosting huge gigs; live extreme sports over six big screens.

The Welder

A repurposed building is home to a wellness centre, yoga classes and planted based cooking classes. And wait there is more … the shared indoor courtyard bathed in light, greenery and open spaces is home to an organic bakery with the scent of sourdough in the air, tapas bar, Japanese yakitori BBQ, a barefoot eatery where raw ingredients are celebrated and comfortable sofas to enjoy coffee or cold pressed fresh squeezed juice.

This is a must-go destination for foodie buffs and food tourists.

Innovative interpretations of contemporary fusion cafe menus creates an authentic Hello Sunday repertoire. Ideas such as bubbles and lunch packages continue to draw in the locals. It’s about time visitors got to check out a hot favourite in Sydenham. Gritty Sydenham is now a rejuvenated inner city destination.

New Regent Street, The Caffeine Laboratory

Permanently closed

New Regent Street is art deco pastel beauty and the Caffeine Laboratory cafe fits right into the atmosphere.

Excellent coffee, a menu based on all day breakfast classics makes this a reason to linger and watch the crowds go by in one of Christchurch’s favourite visitor destinations.
