Canterbury museum things to do

Christchurch, New Zealand

It’s about time the Canterbury Museum underwent a major refurbishment. It was tired and out of date in overcrowded stuffy rooms. Exciting news.

The Rolleston Avenue site is closed but from mid-2023 you can visit the cool new pop-up Museum at 66 Gloucester Street. Online you can continue to explore the collections and be part of the amazing redevelopment journey that lies ahead.

Where is the temporary Canterbury Museum, Christchurch now located?

Pop-up at CoCA

Canterbury Museum’s Rolleston Avenue site is undergoing a major redevelopment. The buildings are empty and the staff have moved out. We’ve opened a pop-up Museum on the first floor of the CoCA building at 66 Gloucester Street.

Around half the pop-up Museum is dedicated to collection highlights and visitor favourites from the Museum’s permanent galleries. The other half displays temporary exhibitions.
