Bell Rock lookout, Hawke Bay
Intrepid adventurers have Bell Rock in their sights. Extraordinary limestone formations with the instagram worthy ‘Bell Rock’ as resident rockstar of the outcrop. Breathtaking views over Hawke’s Bay. Bell Rock is a top pick due to its views and the extraordinary rock formations leading up to the lookout.
The entrance is from the Pohokura Road. The track distance 5.3 loop. Check Boundary stream walks, Hawke’s Bay for walk details and safety advice. The walk is medium grade with sharp drops in some areas, care is needed especially if with children. The track starts in podocarp forest with mature gnarly beech and mountain holly trees. There are large numbers of birds from tui to kereru feeding on the fruiting trees.
TIP
Best conditions are a cloudless day to take in the views and minimal wind. The exposed lookout can be chilly even in the middle of summer. There is no access to water, so carry adequate supplies.
