DARWIN MILITARY MUSEUM – SHORT FILM OF JAPANESE WORLD WAR II BOMBING – #DARWINMUSTDO
Darwin Military Museum highlight and #darwinmustdo is the short film of the fateful bombing of Darwin. On 19 February 1942 more than 188 Japanese aircraft attacked Darwin’s harbour, airfield and town centre.
The doors silently close behind you are you sit in air conditioned comfort (very pleasant in the tropical climate) and you witness the searing impact of bombs, fire, the noise and sheer terror.
The almost forgotten destruction of Darwin at the hands of Japan in World War II is a learning experience for most visitors. The impact of war, the loss of life and grief is vividly captured with the Darwin Military Museum short film.
DARWIN MILITARY MUSEUM – OUTSIDE EXHIBITS
Immerse yourself in the tales of men and women who toiled through jungles and hostile terrain to defend Australia’s territory. The outdoor exhibits are nestled in the lush subtropical Darwin climate and add an authenticity to the exhibits.
Original World War II huts, vehicles and weapons are covered with camouflage netting. The artefacts are real with very little touching up. Slightly rusted, dust and plant vines wrap the exhibit with a sense of being there. There are seats and picnic places.

The Darwin Military Museum is located in the beautiful setting of East Point Reserve. Parklands, lake and ocean views and the subtropical climate add a sense of realism to the exhibits. Original concrete bunkers are now housing used equipment. Poignant messaging which resonates with all age groups.
