Immersive, adventure with a historical story, Sovereign Hill heritage attraction is one of Melbourne’s premier tourist attractions. Artfully woven into the recreated 19th century main street is the genuine remains of a former mining area.
Sovereign Hill is a window to the world of 1851 and the heady days of the gold rush. The attractions are multi-dimensional with various gold rush era character reenactments.
Your entrance ticket includes entry into a number of daily activities

Red Hill Photographic studios, coach rides, candle dipping and underground mine tours, specialised back of the house collection tours, behind the scenes Eureka tour, lectures. There is limited space available for specialist tours, forward booking is recommended especially during the school holidays. As dusk falls there is a 1854 Eureka Rebellion audio-visual presentation.

Sovereign Hill customer service hosts are garbed in clothing styles of the 1850’s.
Sovereign Hill is part of the large bus tourist circuit. Be prepared for crowds in the peak summer months in particular. Sovereign Hill opens daily at 10.00 am.
There are several food options available at Sovereign Hill, Hope Bakery with the staple sausage rolls, pies, a pub with light snacks and a cafe with contemporary fare.
You can BYO food to Sovereign Hill. There is a playground and picnic tables near the entry gates.
Visitors tend to spend half a day exploring the standard ticket attractions. Depending on how many additional attractions you purchase allow one full day.
Sovereign Hill’s visitor entrance and car park is located in Bradshaw Street, Ballarat and can easily be accessed by car and public transport.
SOVEREIGN HILL – MELBOURNE TRAIN ACCESS & LOCATION
Direct from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, hop on the V/Line train and arrive in less than 90 minutes at the historic Ballarat Railway Station in the centre of town.
