Bendigo is a family friendly Melbourne day trip shopping destination. Key highlights include Bendigo Pottery and a lively weekend farmers market. Stroll the main shopping thoroughfare with its attractive high street Victorian facades. Today the shops are largely owner managed artisan shops and galleries. Hop aboard trundling Talking Tram to explore the town further with plenty of opportunities to pick up gifts and souvenirs.
Bendigo Pottery has quality ceramic tableware manufactured on site in the historic kilns. Adjoining the Bendigo Pottery are numerous stalls where artists run workshops, showcase wares and interact with visitors.
There is an extensive second hand, vintage store managing to sell almost everything. The cafe is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Check beforehand the opening hours for pottery factory tours and the small museum.
Bendigo Pottery seconds. There is a shop selection of seconds which have not passed the quality control process yet are considered for sale at a discounted price. Bargains with a flaw. Pick up a gift from the extensive premium or seconds displays. A great reminder of your Bendigo weekend.
Bendigo’s main street shopping highlights include the well known Bendigo Art Gallery along with stores marketing mid-range to upmarket fashion items. There are a number of shops specialising in Made in Bendigo wares.
The main shopping thoroughfare is marked with pedestrian Pall Mall connecting the Charing Cross intersection to the south-west with McCrae Street to the north-east at Howard Place, opposite Mundy Street. Bendigo city centre is flat, easily walkable and set out in a grid pattern.
