Just beyond Six Mile Creek Bridge and the historic hydroelectric generation plant is an overgrown track identified as 8 Mile. The forest is glorious mixed beech/podocarp forest with moss and regrowth starting to obliterate the track edges. Tramping boots are required as the track is not formed, it is at times difficult to ascertain the route. The track terminates at DOC tramping hut with Lake Matiri Hut: Kahurangi National Park, Nelson/Tasman region vistas making the uphill climb worthwhile.
